James is spending two weeks in Moldova & Romania helping out at a children’s summer camp. He flew out on the 23rd July to Moldova meeting up with a local Christian organisation called Agape, before heading to the camp at Lacu Rosu in Romania. There he is helping organise a variety of activities and games for a group of about 30 children who come from a very poor district of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. They are between 9 and 14 years of age. He is part of a team of 4 from the UK under the direction of Rob Allen (ex Horsham Baptists), who has set up a charity known as Flyers International to help run the camps with Agape. As well as supporting the camp in person, Flyers raises the funds necessary to enable these poor children to go. For many it is the first holiday that they have ever had. James is in charge of organising a variety of individual and team games – rather like ‘It’s a Knockout!’ He returns to Moldova and the team have been invited to visit the British Ambassador there before returning on the 7th August.
Hope all goes well James we look forward to seeing the pics!
What James did:
I went to Moldova and Romania for 2 weeks in July/August with Rob & Jo Allen and Sarah Penberthy working with Rob’s charity (Flyers International) in conjunction with a Moldovan charity (Agape) to help with a summer camp for children.
When we arrived we spent 3 days with Agape and the Moldovan young leaders finalising the details of the camp. The actual camp took place in the mountains of Romania at a place called Lacu Rosu. There were 23 children on the camp aged 9 – 16. During the week we did various activities such as mountain climbing, boating on the lake, outdoor games and indoor crafts.
Each afternoon the Moldovan young leaders led bible study sessions in small groups and we all got together every evening for a time of worship. Each evening a different young leader gave a testimony of how they became a Christian.
After the camp we returned to Moldova and had the opportunity of meeting the British Ambassador, who was very interested in what we were doing. The camp was a great success and I really enjoyed the whole experience.
If you wpuld like to know more have a chat with James I am sure he can tell you all about his adventures!
